Position Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Student Involvement, the Associate Director for Student Formation oversees all services and programs that support the four-year Formation process for Rose Hill undergraduate students.



This position is a critical role that is designed to integrate the Jesuit tenets and mission of the Division of Student Affairs and the University through the role's responsibilities/duties of advising, teamwork and supervision in order to achieve retention.



This position requires the ability to work long hours and work with a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends and availability to attend to emergent situations on campus as needed.



Essential Functions

  • Collaboratively researches, designs, plans, implements, and assesses an integrated and mission-driven student formation program beginning with semesterly Orientation programs, the program through which all traditional undergraduate students at the Rose Hill campus begin their careers at Fordham University.

  • Supervises the core three-day comprehensive New Student Orientation program just prior to the first day of classes in Fall, the one-day Spring orientation for transfers and first year students in January, and three optional day long Summer Orientation Programs (SOPs) entering students and families.

  • Recruits, selects, trains and supervises one Graduate Intern and four undergraduate Orientation Coordinators who in turn lead and train more than 250 undergraduate volunteer Orientation Leaders, Orientation Captains, and Orientation Assistants.

  • Designs and coordinates comprehensive training for Orientation staff including program aspects required by law and regulation and elements central to Fordham's mission related to inclusion, civility, ethics, and community standards and conduct.

  • Manages the First Year Formation course, including collaborative curriculum development, marketing and retention, assessment, training of staff and student instructors, and excursion management.

  • Collaboratively plans Rose Hill's Orientation and Student Formation approach with the Assistant Dean and the Dean of Students, playing a core leadership, management, and planning role on the Assistant Dean for Student Involvemen's team and with program and department heads across the Division of Student Affairs.

  • Advises Senior Week Committee and oversees related large scale programming for the graduating class, including periodic Senior Nights, the Senior Transitions Program, Senior Week, Parent Appreciation Dinner Dance, and coordinates with the University Secretary's office on Commencement and Senior Week.

  • Manages the annual Senior Leadership Awards for the graduating class including the nomination process, convenes the Selection Committee, and coordinates the Awards Mass, Banquet, and Program.

  • Coordinates planning and implementation of First Year Core Programming (FYCP), the annual mandatory fall program on critical topics such as substance abuse, sexual misconduct, civility, and safety.

  • Advises the Maroon Yearbook and coordinates with the vendors for yearbook portrait-taking and the publication's printing.

  • Implements Divisional and Departmental priorities as assigned the Assistant Dean for Student Involvement such as (but not limited to) attending/participating in events, preparing agenda for team meetings, assisting with staff development opportunities and coordination of other Office strategic projects.

  • Coordinates closely with colleagues in Lincoln Center Student Involvement, Rose Hill's two traditional undergraduate colleges, and multiple relevant departments and University committees including Commencement, Entering Class Management Committee, and Global (international student) Transitions on behalf of Orientation/Formation, the Office for Student Involvement, and/or Rose Hill Student Life.

  • Develops and updates critical processes and standard procedures for Student Formation to assure program continuity and continuous planning and improvement.

  • Manages the Orientation and Student Formation program budgets.

  • Manages and coordinates updates for the various Office for Student Involvement websites with other staff members.

  • Represents the Office for Student Involvement at University related functions.

  • Participates and collaborates on University-wide events such as (but not limited to) Homecoming, Commencement, Jubilee, President's Ball, Midnight Breakfast and Admissions Open Houses.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Minimum of 4 years of full-time experience in (or transferable experiences related to) Orientation, program advisement or event management, a background in student development and an understanding of the tenets of Jesuit, Catholic higher education.




Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills

  • Technical competency in Google and Microsoft Office Suites

  • Strong time management skills and attention to detail

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priories in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.




Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree




Minimum Starting Salary: $68,000



Maximum Starting Salary: $70,000



Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
