Position Summary
Assumes responsibility for promoting a positive and successful experience for first year students in an effort to increase student retention and graduation. Performs all duties in full support of the University's mission, and with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion, understanding that the positive and effective execution of these duties are instrumental to the education of the University's students.
Hiring Range
Starting Salary is budgeted between $45,868 to $48,000, depending upon experience
Key Responsibilities
- Advises and coaches a caseload (100-130) of first-year students through their transition to the University and supporting and monitoring academic, personal, and social opportunities, major requirements and success strategies. Advises students on first-year course selection and assists with registrations. Proactively connects students with departments and university resources in an effort to create solutions for at-risk students and those facing academic, personal and social difficulties.
- Supports, guides and empowers students through their first year to build the formation for continued success and development of skills necessary to be advocates for themselves. Uses the full functionality of the early alert system to maintain information regarding student appointments, alerts, progress surveys, and other necessary information adhering to data integrity standards.
- Establishes, cultivates and maintains effective working relationships within the Division of Student Success to promote and support a positive student academic experience.
- Facilitates 5-6 sections of First-Year Experience Course abiding by all curriculum guidelines such as learning outcomes and classroom activities.
- Prepares and conducts well-organized presentations, class discussions, and activities on various topics.
- Communicates accurate and timely information and feedback to students.
- Meets once per week with each section and regularly with peer mentors. Provides assistance to students in and outside of the classroom.
- Performs all duties to support the "one stop shop" for students and parents including, but not limited to, answering inquiries, processing paperwork and registrations and serving as a liaison to financial aid and the Bursar's Office, and participation in office programming.
- Actively participates in summer programing orientation activities, and fall opening in an effort to support the transition from freshman to sophomore year.
- Participates in pre-registration for fall courses, distribution of schedules to students and assistance in making changes to fall schedules.
- Connects with students and families over the summer in an effort to ensure students are prepared for the fall, answering questions on concerns including, but not limited to, course schedules and locations, purchasing books and materials, obtaining employment and addressing billing and financial aid concerns.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
