The SUNY Rochester EOC (REOC) has been an established adult educational facility in the city of Rochester NY for over 50 years. Conveniently located in Downtown Rochester, the REOC has earned the reputation as one of the outstanding Centers in the state. REOC employees collaboratively provide skill and academic training necessary for students to continue to college or obtain a career. Job Summary:
The Office Assistant 1 (Keyboarding) provides clerical and administrative support for the Admissions office by answering large volumes of phone calls, returning voicemails, replying to applicant emails, processing admissions mail, greeting students/applicants, and providing basic program information to prospective students.
  • Answers telephones
  • Returns voicemail messages
  • Provides program information to prospective students
  • Updates applicant/student demographic information in BANNER as needed
  • Provides backup to Admissions Staff Assistant
  • Assists Staff Assistant with test and registration correspondence
  • Scans documents as needed
  • Other projects assigned by supervisor

Minimum Qualifications:
NON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (NY HELPS):
There are no minimum education or experience requirements for this title. The selected candidate must pass a keyboarding test that demonstrates the ability to enter text at a rate of at least 30 words per minute with at least 96% accuracy by completion of probation.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to multi-task
  • Detail oriented
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office
  • Excellent customer service skills

Work Schedule: 37.5 Hours/Week; Monday-Friday; 9:00am-5:00pm
Salary, Benefits and Appointment:
$35,177

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).

For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a noncompetitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.

At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
